8 Powerful Steps to Manifest Miracles in Your Life and Business

The teachings of manifestation and the law of attraction date back to ancient times in sacred mystery schools. Those who gained wealth, prosperity and abundance via these teachings may have kept this a secret against the masses. Something once thought of as impossible can be rendered possible via the use of imagination; bending reality to your will and desire. Have you ever thought of starting and growing your own business? Have you ever thought of living a prosperous and abundant life full of excitement and joy? The secret to achieving all these things has been with you all this time. By placing your body, mind, and soul in alignment, YOU have the power to attract the life and business you desire NOW.

Follow these steps to manifest miracles in your life and business:

1. Get clear on what you want

Leverage the power of intention to realise your biggest, most enticing goals. Develop a clear, concise intention of what it is you want to manifest. Is it a dream home? Is it to make more money in your business? Or to find a better job that will fill you with excitement each day? Seek clarity on exactly what it is you want to achieve, exactly where you want to go and the journey you’ll need to embark on to make all this a reality. Start focusing your attention and energy on your vision for a prosperous future.

2. Develop a growth mindset

We all possess an innate power to create and manifest via our imaginations. Don’t seal yourself in a cocoon just because it is what you know. Be open-minded to new experiences and opportunities and learn to train your mind to expect more. A fixed mindset only increases limitations in your life. Developing a growth, abundance mindset requires us to change our existing, limiting beliefs and create new, powerful and more compelling beliefs.

3. Be confident you are worthy

Be confident that you are worthy of what you desire, low-self-esteem sends mixed signals to the universe. To genuinely desire to achieve something you want, you must believe in your ability to achieve it. It’s important to develop a strong belief in yourself and your own strengths and abilities and to become more acutely aware of your inner talents and gifts.

4. Develop the “I AM” mentality

Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.“ Napoleon Hill

Live as though you have already accomplished what you long for. The “I AM” mentality emits and attracts positive energy and opens you up to endless possibilities such as living a happy and enriching life, experiencing deep connections with others, receiving items of high value, opportunities for creativity and inspiration, new, exciting and meaningful experiences, a newly found feeling of security and confidence in oneself and greater, more successful outcomes overall.

5. Understand that the universe has your back

Understand that once you surrender to the universe, it will work to take care of you. Once you’ve cleared your energy blocks, released negativity and limiting beliefs and awakened your manifestation powers the universe will get to work on your behalf. Learn to release control and trust that the universe will take over. This is a crucial part of the manifestation process, you must learn to relax and release control. Open yourself up to the unknown which could bring enhancement to your life.

6. Visualise daily

Visualisation is how you draw your goals and dreams closer to you. Spend at least 5-10 minutes in the morning and at night visualising your desires in as much detail as you can conjure in your mind. Be specific, envision colours, sounds, people, pictures, your feelings and your thoughts. What we feed into our consciousness reprograms our mind and shapes our future.

7. Take action

Take inspired action. Co-create with the universe the results you want. If it’s that car you wanted; work a little harder and a promotion may be on its way. Put yourself out there, take risks and do the work. The universe will reward you.

8. Be patient

Everything happens in divine order, not when you want it. But, when the time is right. Remember, patience is a virtue. Immerse yourself in other activities to distract you from becoming obsessed with the manifestation process.

The power of thought and willpower is endless; remember that the key to leading the life and business of your dreams lies in your own self-belief, so keep thinking positive and empowering thoughts and magical things will happen!

The Power of Gratitude for Attracting More Joy and Abundance

We are all surrounded by blessings and reasons to be grateful, but few of us realise this. Many people have a habit of skipping gratitude in their obsessive rush to the next thing. The question is, do you really understand what it means to have gratitude, how to express it and how it can positively impact your life? We all desire, look forward to and without exception deserve a happy life. Unknown to many, gratitude is the pathway that will lead you to a happy and fulfilling life. It is an active state of appreciation that will attract opportunities for greater joy and abundance.

By shifting your attitude and focusing on the little things so worthy of feeling grateful for, you will discover even more things to be grateful for. If you focus on things that make you sad, you will see more things that make you feel this way. As you can see, it’s all about perspective. Utilising the power of gratitude consciously is an important life skill that we all need to learn and master. Today is the perfect time to be mindful of the things you are grateful for.

What is Gratitude?

Simply put, gratitude means being thankful for what you have right now, counting your blessings and acknowledging all that you receive, both big and small. It is about noticing the simple pleasures in life. By developing an attitude of sincere gratitude, you attract more for which you can be grateful and unleash the ultimate power of abundance. Something as simple as whispering a prayer in the morning expressing how grateful you are for this new day can lead to positive changes in your life. By cultivating gratitude, you will experience true joy every day no matter what you are going through.

The Power of Gratitude

Never underestimate the power of a simple ‘thank you’. Expressing gratitude is one of the most effective tools for feeling better. Gratitude is a powerful force that can help you manifest your deepest desires such as health, love, peace and abundance. Often amid our busy lives and tackling the problems we face, we tend to ignore these two powerful words. By repeatedly seeing the worst in situations and magnifying the problems you face, you become blind to the many opportunities and instances you should be grateful for. This adversely affects how you view life and how you overcome challenges. The result is a constant struggle for real happiness. A grateful mindset opens us up to creativity, inspiration and new opportunities. Each time you express gratitude, you align yourself with an infinite flow of joy and abundance.

How Gratitude Shifts Your Focus towards Joy and Abundance

Gratitude arms you with the necessary strength and perception to shift your focus from negative thought patterns towards abundance. Developing the habit of feeling and expressing gratitude will positively impact your career, personality, emotional state, health and social life. Instead of complaining about all the things you don’t have, instead you choose to focus on what you do have. In doing so you become more resilient and happy. You begin to believe that there is nothing life can throw at you that you cannot overcome. You begin to believe that your blessings are bigger than your problems, you are tapping into the positive energy within you and using this to shield you from suffering and pain. In turn you will start to notice improvements in your health, your mental state, your thoughts, your relationships, your performance, and a reduction in your stress, tension and fear.

Whilst you wait for things that are yet to come, learn to be grateful for what you have now.

How to Cultivate an Attitude of Appreciation

Here are some habits you can adopt daily for using gratitude to attract more joy, wealth, success, compassion and abundance into your life:

1. Morning Meditation

It is important to establish a morning ritual that will set you up for your best day. Try starting your day with a meditation session to calm your body and mind, to reflect on your achievements from the previous day and to create a feeling of excitement about all the possibilities that lie ahead. Meditation renews your energy and reframes your mindset to bring positive thoughts. Beginning your day feeling positive and inspired, you take this positive energy with you into the world and pass it onto others.

2. Develop a Sense of Wonderment

Being aware of the beauty that surrounds you helps to cultivate gratitude. If you live in the countryside, marvel at the beauty of the picturesque scenery and the breathtaking beauty of nature. If you live in the city, marvel at the magnificent landmarks and architecture that surround you. Be more observant and note the subtle gestures of good will people make. Smile more and carry out random acts of kindness. Always aspire to see beauty where others see nothing.

3. Appreciate Your Own Accomplishments and Positive Qualities

You can’t appreciate others without appreciating yourself first. Many people are busy pleasing others instead of focusing on themselves. Be grateful for the wonderful gift that is your life. Celebrate the small wins in the same way you celebrate big successes. Acknowledge all that you have accomplished and believe all the positive things people say to you. Never dismiss a compliment, accept it and bask in the joy it brings you.

4. Write down all that you are grateful for in a gratitude journal

Writing down all that you are grateful for is a powerful and therapeutic way of training your mind to notice these things all the more. By seeing them on paper you recognize the eminence of them. This inspires you to live each day to the fullest so that you can add more treasured moments to your Gratitude Journal. It could be anything from your health to a delicious meal you savoured. If you struggle to identify anything recent delve into your memories and select one that brought you great happiness. When you are encountering a negative or painful experience you can revisit your Gratitude Journal to remind you just how lucky you are.

5. Express appreciation of others daily

This could refer to your family members, friends, partners, spouses, colleagues or even complete strangers. By letting others know how much you appreciate them, you enhance their sense of self-worth and invite them to express the same kindness towards you. Positive energy is infectious, they will share this positive energy with others, including you.

Benefits of learning to be grateful every day:

• When you shift your focus towards gratitude, it brings immediate feelings of happiness.
• Gratitude helps us to overcome difficult times more quickly and easily.
• When you take time to appreciate all the ways in which life is being kind to you, you attract more positive experiences, joy and abundance.
• Practising an attitude of gratitude leads to better health. You will experience improvements in your sleep, reduced stress, an improved immune system and less physical pain.
• Being consistently grateful helps you to evolve and become a better version of yourself. You will become more open-minded and attract greater opportunities.
• By activating the Law of Attraction through the power of gratitude, you open doors to more joy, wealth and abundance in your life.

By developing an attitude of sincere gratitude for everything you have and everything you are, you open gateways to greater things. Beginning and ending your day with gratitude will ensure you are well and frequently rewarded.

4 Ways Mindfulness Boosts Happiness

“In today’s rush, we all think too much — seek too much — want too much — and forget about the joy of just being.”

Eckhart Tolle

The practice of Mindfulness dates back to the early teachings of the Buddha and has become a popular technique for the relief of stress and anxiety. Mindfulness is a state of mind that helps us to focus on the present moment, it’s the practice of being conscious of how we are both perceiving and reacting to our thoughts and our environment. If practiced regularly it brings calm and peace to our lives, reduces our tension and enhances our awareness and mental capacity. There has been a boom of mindfulness meditation courses, taken up by everyone from burnt out parents, patients suffering from chronic pain to stressed out executives, who all report improvements in their mood, stress and happiness levels.

Here are 4 ways that mindfulness makes us feel happier and enhances the quality of our lives:

“There are times when we stop, we sit still. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.”

James Carroll

1. Mindfulness helps break the cycle of negative thinking

It is our thoughts that affect our feelings, and it is our feelings that generate certain types of behaviour. For example, if we dwell on a past failure or negative event, we start to feel negative emotions such as sadness, hopelessness and despair and this leads to even more negative feelings. This process propels us into a downward spiral and becomes a vicious cycle. Mindfulness meditation is a form of mind training which helps us to observe negative thoughts as they creep in, accept them, recognise how we experience them physically and then shift our attention away from them to something that is healthier or more important. It helps us cultivate a more positive mindset and opens us up to greater happiness. Rather than being slaves to our minds, we learn how to be masters of them.

How do you deal with your critter brain?

2. Mindfulness helps us learn to appreciate the simple things in life

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”

Robert Brault

Practising mindfulness requires that we pause and take notice of things that we may not have noticed before. In this moment, we learn to appreciate the smaller, more simple things in life such as the warmth of the sun, the sound of a child laughing or the beauty that surrounds us. Mindfulness helps to engage our senses, feel, taste, touch, sound and sight to help us truly experience and relish the moment.

Take a focused look around you: what do you notice for the first time in a long time about anything within the environment you live – inside your home, your garden, street, village, park, field etc?

3. Mindfulness improves sleep

We’re all aware of the dangers of sleep deprivation and how it can lead to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Practicing mindfulness may be a healthier and more natural alternative to sleeping pills for those who struggle to switch off at night, especially if practiced at bedtime. Increased focus on the present moment prevents us from feeling regret over past events and hinders anxiety caused by hypothesising about future events. The result is a calmer, peaceful state of mind.

What ritual do you use to enable a smooth transition from your daily routine to bedtime and sleep?

4. Mindfulness enhances gratitude

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”

G.K. Chesterton

By focusing on the here and now and learning to appreciate the smaller, simple things, we are enhancing our ability to express gratitude. Gratitude goes hand in hand with mindfulness since it encourages us to stay present in the moment and appreciate what we have now rather than desiring more. This process helps to reprogram our mind to think positively and to alleviate negative thought patterns. Gratitude releases more positive emotions such as joy, love, happiness and releases the negative emotions such as depression and anxiety. In turn these positive thoughts generate more favourable behaviour and better, more successful outcomes.

When is the most recent time you expressed gratitude to someone because you genuinely appreciated them and/or what they had done for you? If nothing comes to mind, then I challenge you to say a genuine ‘thank you’ to the official road sweeper/ rubbish collector in your neighbourhood for keeping the environment you live in clean and tidy!

How to Recognise and Conquer Emotional Eating in 6 Easy Steps

Do you eat when you feel emotional and not only when you are hungry? If you’re someone who reaches for the biscuit cupboard when you’re feeling sad, stressed, lonely or bored then you have a tendency towards emotional eating. Whilst this doesn’t constitute a real problem if it’s an occasional thing, if your go-to way of coping with your emotions is eating then it’s worth considering the impact this may be having on your health and well-being. It’s certainly worth paying attention to your eating habits particularly when you’re bored, tired, lonely, stressed or angry, and if care is not taken you may end up feeding a never-ending problem. While eating can help address emotional hunger, it doesn’t necessarily address the root cause of the problem. If anything, the excess calorie intake only makes you feel even worse than before. The endless cycle continues.

1. How to Recognise Emotional Eating

While emotional eating often results from negative experiences and feelings, it can also result from happier times such as celebrations, rewarding yourself for goals achieved or holidays. The following are signs that you are guilty of emotional eating:

  • You are eating to silence shame, resentment, loneliness, anxiety, sadness, fear, and anger.
  • You are eating so that you can have something to do. People who feel empty or unfulfilled often eat to compensate for their emotional emptiness, to relieve boredom or to fill a void in their life. In the moment eating distracts you from feelings of purposelessness and dissatisfaction.
  • You relish eating unhealthy foods as a way of remembering some of your childhood experiences.
  • You overeat in the presence of others due to peer influence, being encouraged to celebrate etc.
  • You find yourself feeling hungrier when you are stressed, thus you seek comfort through eating. Due to high levels of cortisol in your body, you end up craving fried, sweet, and salty foods.

2. How to Stop Emotional Eating

Many people who are prone to emotional eating feel powerless when it comes to taking control over their food cravings and emotions. But do not despair because there is hope. With a little more effort, it is very easy to stop emotional eating. The key is to find other ways to fulfill yourself emotionally and to take practical steps to manage your stress levels.

Here are a few things you can try to help you regain control of your emotional eating habits:

3. Take a deep breath.

This helps relieve feelings of stress. Deep breathing also releases endorphins, which are feel-good hormones. It gives you time to think about the most appropriate response to the events taking place. Take five seconds to breathe in through your nose and hold for a similar length of time. Gradually, release the air through your mouth for another five seconds. Repeat it five times and you will begin to feel calmer, more at ease and in control.

4. Get more active.

Physical activity burns calories and lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Consider combining cardiovascular activity with high-intensity interval training for a more effective way of combatting stress, making you feel great and improving the quality of your life overall.

5. Eat and enjoy a rainbow of healthy foods.

Adopting a diet full of whole grains, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, fish, lean meat, kefir, and yogurt helps to keep stress levels at bay, and boosts happiness. These are ‘feel good’ foods and will increase your motivation and zest for life. They contain essential nutrients such as calcium, zinc, selenium, magnesium, and the B vitamins that help manage stress, fight illness, and boost strength. They also keep your blood sugar at a healthy level. Ensure you are appreciating the foods you are consuming and be mindful of the amazing benefits these health foods have for your physical and mental health.

6. Plan your shopping ahead.

Plan your weekly shop in advance and take time and care when writing your shopping list. Research healthy recipes beforehand and add the ingredients to your list. Avoid impulse buying as much as possible and consider the health value of all items on your list.

You don’t have to be a victim of emotional eating. By taking control of your emotions and life, you can easily break out of the vicious cycle of stress and emotional eating. Start today!

How to Develop a Mindset for Success

The definition of ‘success’ is open to interpretation and means different things to different people. For some, success can be measured by financial wealth, professional achievements and educational accomplishments or releasing weight. Whatever the personal definition of success one has, there are fundamental principles that apply to the process involved in achieving it. One of these principles is that, for success to manifest in the physical world, the mind needs a preconceived idea of what success means to the individual. A person’s mindset can have a huge impact on how ‘successful’ they will be in their pursuits.

Here are some tips for developing a mindset for success:

1. Create a vision.

Creating a vision of what success looks like for you is the first step towards developing a success mindset. A vision entails a detailed analysis and mental projection of your goals and dreams, the kind of life you desire to lead and the people you wish to associate yourself with. Creating a vision works like a magnet pulling the things you desire towards you and equipping you with the perseverance to pursue your goals. Goals should be ‘SMART’ i.e. broken down into small, manageable, achievable, actionable, realistic and subject to timescales. Goals also should be factored into your daily, weekly and monthly planning and reviews. The process of achieving smaller chunks of a bigger goal on a regular basis builds confidence and motivation. It also creates flexibility and makes it easier to adjust your vision in alignment with the ever-changing environment in which we live and our ever -changing circumstances.

2. Adopt a positive attitude.

Positive thinking means focusing on the brighter side of life’s events instead of dwelling on the negative aspects. It is vital to interpret events in a way that will positively enhance your life. In the face of a challenging situation, looking on its brighter side equips us with the tools we need to come up with workable solutions to handle the problem. Negativity, however, blocks channels of creativity and creates a sense of defeat. Positive thinking helps us overcome our fear of failure. A belief in failure tends to create events that lead to failure.

Developing a positive outlook is actually much easier than some people expect. An effective tactic for training your mind to think positively is accepting yourself warts and all, engaging in encouraging self-talk and being kind to yourself. Doing this daily will help to gradually replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Try commending yourself for your achievements no matter how big or small, and cheering yourself on when you find yourself in difficult situations.

Meditation is another powerful way to promote positive thinking. By calming the mind and repeating positive mantras, the subconscious is fed with nourishing thoughts which manifest as success in the physical world.

3. Seek inspiration.

Inspiration motivates us to pursue our goals and to keep moving forward. Sources of Inspiration are all around us, we just need to be open to them. We may take inspiration from others who have accomplished similar goals to our own. Thus, we choose to draw inspiration from their perseverance, resilience, and successes. Inspiration keeps us going when our energy feels depleted.

4. Study and learn from the past.

Part of our journey to success includes reflecting on our past experiences, considering the previous mistakes we’ve made. Acknowledging and learning from our past shortcomings provides us with vital information necessary for future success. This knowledge will enhance the quality of our future decisions and enable us to deal with similar situations more effectively. Former mistakes should be a reference point for decision making and for avoiding similar potholes. Doing so means that rather than developing a fear of failure, our past experiences and the lessons they taught us give us greater confidence and wisdom. Confidence empowers us to take the correct decisive action.

Learning to change your thinking patterns can have a hugely beneficial effect on your ability to succeed, so start working on your success mindset today!

A Holistic Approach to Nourishment

What comes to mind when you think of nourishment? ‘Holistic’ nourishment addresses the psychological, emotional, physical and social areas of our lives. While all these aspects may be fed separately, they are all interlinked. For some people, the loss of appetite may be replaced by stress eating. Still, the underlying concept is the same: an imbalance in our emotions disrupts our physical, social and psychological well-being.

How then do we find the perfect balance? Food is the number one answer for most of us. However, we forget that nutrition is not the only source of “nourishment” per se. This doesn’t mean that diet is not important in our lives. In fact, the importance of carbs, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and so on cannot be emphasised enough. They provide our bodies with the necessary energy to run our day-to-day activities.

Nonetheless, the mind and body work together as a whole. The brain does not take up 20% of your blood just to think about food. Here are some great are all-rounded approaches to nourishment:

1. Connect with Mother Nature

This is a great way to nourish both our bodies and minds in addition to maintaining emotional, psychological and physical balance in our lives. On the surface, this can sound too theoretical. Introspect for a minute and try to remember the last time you simply enjoyed some sunshine, clean oxygen or a glass of water. Taking these things for granted does not mean they don’t add value to your life. They stand to be more valuable to your well-being if you consciously enjoy them.

2. Physical activity

This can encompass various physical engagements including yoga, jogging, walking, traditional strength training, and sports. Yoga is known to offer body and mind relaxation. Many people do not realise that these other types of physical activity also have the same effect. Try to reduce your TV time and engage in a 20-minute physical activity today. Don’t just do the action, the key is to enjoy it. You’ll love the effect.

3. Work on your relationships

It is easy to spend our days immersed in work or unhealthy relationships and fail to spend time with the truly special people in our lives. Appreciating the small gestures from people that add value to our lives not only improves our social life but also elevates our psychological health. Eliminating unhealthy relationships also helps to relieve stress and creates more time for valuable people and activities.

4. Explore interests and inspirations

These vary from one person to the other. Singing or listening to a song, reading a book, and art are popular hobbies and interests that nourish us. Did you know that reading a book has been shown to prevent Alzheimer’s and reduce stress by 68%? Spend at least 45 minutes a day doing something that you love. It will give you something to look forward to every day.

5. Self-care and meditation

A peaceful mind is essential to your overall well-being. Taking time to meditate daily helps to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and develops clear personal and social structures. Simple self-care activities such as visiting a spa, getting a massage or dressing in clothes that make you feel great can help boost your confidence and happiness. This enhanced perception of ourselves is also reflected in the way we treat the people around us.

What are the Benefits of a holistic approach to nourishment?

1. Strength and endurance: A holistic approach to nourishment strengthens the body and mind and makes it easier to deal with physical and mental pressure.
2. Resistance to physical and psychological illness: Physical activity and a healthy diet in addition to social and psychological wellness techniques develops resistance to conditions such as memory loss, obesity, depression, anxiety, high blood pressure and disease.
3. Improved relationships: Acknowledging the people in our lives and their value builds stronger and long-lasting relationships. We are capable of giving and receiving more love and support.
4. Finding purpose: Holistic nourishment advocates self-care, meditation and inner reflection, which are essential to understanding our life’s purpose and the path we are destined to take.

As humans, two of our primary objectives in life are finding pleasure and reducing or preventing pain. Adopting a holistic approach to nourishment is the key to a truly happy and fulfilling life. It feeds the body, mind and spirit, which ultimately improves the quality of life’s experiences.

Embrace Fear and Jump into Something New

Why is our first instinct almost always to resist change? Is it because of the perceived risks or fears associated with it? The contemplation of any life altering transition can be scary. But nothing is more satisfying than embracing our fears, embarking on a new adventure and emerging the other side a more confident and happier version of our previous self. Often, the reason comes down to a fear of stepping outside of our comfort zone, that little bubble that makes us feel safe and warm. The important thing to remember is that there is always a price for success and greater happiness, because achieving these things require the taking of big leaps, so, the question I ask you is, are you willing to pay for a better life?

The key is to focus on the things you stand to gain, rather than lose. Take a moment to remember a time in your past when you took action that was daunting at first but awarded you with a tremendous feeling of achievement and pride, for example that job interview that lead to a fantastic role or walking down the aisle of your wedding day, in those moments you were afraid, but you embraced your fear, took the plunge and afterward you felt wonderful! It’s about altering your mindset and always looking forward, focusing on the positive outcomes of taking the leap.

Here are a few tips to help you in your quest for change and a happier you:

1. Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone

“As you move outside of your comfort zone, what was once the unknown and frightening becomes your new normal”

Robin S. Sharma

Prepare to step out of that comfort bubble. Try not to think about it too much, just take a deep breath, and do it! As Tony Robbins said ‘the path to success is to take massive determined action.’ It’s action that gets you to where you want to be, not thoughts. Life doesn’t change unless change is created. The more often you do this the easier it will become, do something that scares you every day!

2. Invest in yourself

Your growth starts from within. Do you really know ‘YOU’? What are you passionate about? If you have the answers to these questions, then your transition will be more straight forward. The best investment you can ever make is an investment in yourself. Learning never stops. If you want to live a vibrant life in your later years, it’s important to ensure your brain remains stimulated. Continually seek new ways to boost your knowledge and expand your horizons. Pursue a hobby, undergo some training, join a class or group. Remember, knowledge is power! And learning boosts your self-esteem and life-satisfaction.

3. Plan for change

“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!”

Benjamin Franklin

You maximise your chances of success if you take time to plan. Crucially, the first step you must take is determining your ‘why’, why do you want to make these changes? How will they benefit and enhance your life? Write these down. Under each ‘why’ write an action plan. Consider any compromises you’ll need to make to achieve your goals. Factor these into your plan. Consider who or what these changes will affect, partners, family members for example, factor these in too and ensure you communicate with these people to ensure they understand and connect with your ‘why’ too.

Remember, the choices you make today will determine your tomorrow. The best way to avoid a life full of regrets is to embrace your fears and face your challenges with confidence. Many others have done it, so can you!

The Different Perspectives on Joy

‘Joy’ is a sensation experienced by those who adopt a positive mindset and outlook on life. In this state our minds are at ease and we feel content with our own reality. Joyful people are courageous and feel inspired to be a better version of themselves. ‘Joy’ is a useful state and can help us overcome challenges and obstacles. The degree to which we experience this joyful state often depends on our individual perspectives.

How Does Perspective Determine Joy?

1. Our perspective can help facilitate long-term solutions to the challenges we face

Changing how we view the events we encounter can help us immerge victoriously. Altering your view so that you perceive what appears to be a negative event as something more positive can give you the strength and resourcefulness you need to tailor a solution that will enhance the quality of your life. For example, if your business suffers a loss, you can choose to dwell on the unfavourable consequences, or you can choose to focus on what this incident has taught you and how you will use that new found knowledge to make improvements going forward.

Taking a positive stance towards life’s events will cushion the impact of a crisis, increase the levels of joy you feel and reduce your stress.

2. Changing our perspective eases our pain

Life, just like a journey, is bound to come to an end at some point. The death of a loved one can leave us devastated and broken. Altering your thought process and perspective in a hurtful occurrence can have a significant impact on your ability to cope with the loss and help prevent suffering from long-term misery and shut down. You may decide that, instead of allowing the pain of the loss to consume you, you’ll focus on the fact that they are angels now, in a better place or free from pain and misery. You may wish to celebrate their life and achievements, and the positive influence that they had on you. This will accelerate the healing process and help you to move on with your life amicably.

Never letting go of that pain and allowing the tragedy of death to cloud your mind will only result in a bitterness that will be extremely hard to shift. The same principle applies to the loss of friendships, jobs, homes and relationships.

3. Changing our perspective inspires new ideas and helps us make better decisions

How you choose to handle different situations will determine the outcome, and you do have a choice. Adapting a ‘joyful’ state and mindset means that, regardless of the storms that come your way, you’ll won’t lose this feeling. Negative events may inspire ideas that may not have dawned on you before. For example, a burglar breaking into your home is an opportunity to invest in a better security system or upgrade to better electronics. If the burglars get to the extra key hidden under your flower pot, you will be inspired to seek more creative ways to hide that extra key.

Negative events help us make better and wiser decisions. The loss of a job may make you realise that it wasn’t the best fit for you and in turn this will help you secure a role that is a great fit for you next time round.

The more you strive to conjure the virtue that is joy, the easier you’ll find it to embrace the smaller things in life that contribute to your happiness overall. A joyful person finds peace in the sound of a child laughing, a bird chirping, raindrops against their window, the soft wind against their cheek, in the smile of a stranger. Despite the black clouds that hover over them, the world they live in is a happy place, because they have chosen to interpret their reality as one that is positive.

8 Powerful Ways to Overcome Self-Doubt

A lack of self-confidence is something that affects many of us, and it can have a serious impact on our happiness. Self-doubt can prevent us from living the life of our dreams. The ‘Imposter syndrome’ is the name given to a cluster of commonly held thoughts and attitudes which encourage us to attribute our success to error, luck or charm rather than our ability. Here are eight techniques and processes that can help you break through them and eliminate self-doubt for good:

1. Dream from your heart

Take some time to really consider what it is you really want and write down the goals and priorities that are most important to you. When you give expression to your desires, you take the first step in bringing them out into the world.

2. Activate your imagination by following the path of your heart

Daydream, allow yourself to live favorable outcomes to the problems you are experiencing, and feel yourself truly enjoying your own life. Imagination is a powerful process that sets you on a new course to a happier life.

3. Make your dreams and goals a priority…

By taking positive action every day on the dreams that are most important to you, and on the forward moving steps that your imagination brought into your awareness.

4. Cultivate hope…

That you can have what you want. It’s easy to allow fear to creep in and doubt you’ll ever truly get what you want. Ensure you keep hope alive by envisioning your desires and the changes you want to make. Strive to protect and nurture that seed of hope until it grows into a beautiful new potential.

5. Be your own best friend…

When life is good, and when it is bad. When you are stressed, fearful, or doubtful, do whatever you need to regain mind, body, and spiritual balance. Talk to yourself kindly, take yourself for a walk, go swimming, take a bath, drink a lot of water, breathe deeply. The point is, don’t beat yourself up when you’re down, find new ways to lift your spirit.

6. Follow your intuition

Your conscience will never misguide you and you should always follow it. Continue to listen to your inner voice and let it guide you closer and closer to your dreams.

7. Accept reality

Acknowledge your emotions, feel what you feel, and allow your emotional energy to flow up and out. Then step out of the channel of heavy emotions and dare to bring yourself back into alignment with your vision and imagination of what is possible.

8. Take calculated risks

Step outside your comfort zone. The risks you take may not always bring the results you desire first time round, but each time you dare to step beyond the boundaries of your current limitations, you show yourself that failure is not the end of anything. It’s just a momentary setback. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and find a new way around your setback. Releasing self-doubt isn’t an all or nothing proposition, and it’s not overcome in one instant. You gain confidence as you look deep within, into your true feelings, and discover new ways to express your truths, values, and priorities.

By focusing on what is most important to you and using the tips above, you’ll soon be taking huge leaps towards a more confident you and the life you’ve always dreamed of.

Five Tips for Managing Stress

Winston Churchill said: “If you are going through hell, keep going!”

Stress tends to creep up on us due to a perceived inability to manage the demands life throws at us. Sometimes it can be beneficial as it pushes us to achieve more, but higher levels of stress sustained over a long period of time can be harmful to our bodies and minds. Stress can have a damaging effect on our immune system, central nervous system, cardiovascular system and even mess with our emotions in a big way.

When we allow stress to continue unchecked and untreated, it can cause chronic anxiety, muscle pain, insomnia, high blood pressure and weakened immune system. Research has shown that stress can play a significant role in the development of diseases like depression, obesity, and heart disease.

These risks mean that we need to develop defence strategies and stress combating tactics to protect ourselves from the dangers that may arise if we don’t work to mitigate stress. There are many ways to self-manage stress and regain control of your full faculties and be healthy again. Here are just a few of the most effective stress combatting tips:

1. Step back from the stressor

Sometimes it is difficult to break away from the main cause of your stress, for example, increasing debt or an unhealthy relationship. However, when you take a step back, this could mean taking a couple of days away to yourself and allowing yourself time to think, you give yourself an opportunity to reflect. This may result in you noticing or feeling things you weren’t before, and in this more relaxed and reflective state you may find a solution that wasn’t obvious before. You will need to face up to the root of the stress at some point, but taking a short break in the interim can help you see more clearly and boost your strength.

2. Exercise

Regular exercise is vital for a strong body and mind and can significantly reduce stress levels. Just 30 minutes of exercise, 3 times a week will have you smiling and full of energy. Exercise needn’t be meaningless, it could be walking the dog or dancing with friends, it doesn’t have to be solitary either! Exercising with others is a great motivator. Take your pick, run, swim, play a sport, take a salsa dancing class, whichever form of exercise you choose will help you manage your stress levels better. Build up slowly, just 5 – 10 minutes a day will enhance your mood.

3. Meditate and practice mindfulness

Two of the most popular relaxation techniques around the world are meditation and mindfulness. Both help ease stress by releasing negative emotions and focusing on the present moment. They relieve stress by providing the space and clarity we need to alleviate the demands we imagine and which, in many cases aren’t valid.

4. Accept what you cannot control

One of the best ways of reducing stress levels is accepting the fact that you do not always have control over certain situations. Stressful events will occur, there is no avoiding them. We can however control how we react to a stressful situation, how we interpret our experiences is very much down to us.
As Viktor Frankl said, “The one absolute freedom a person has, is the power to choose in a given situation their attitude.”

5. Open up to people

Sharing our experiences both positive and negative can help ease the pressure we feel. It can bring huge relief to discover someone else is experiencing similar problems to us, or to listen to alternative solutions suggested by others.

Stress is a part of everyday life and there’s no way to avoid it completely. Without it, we wouldn’t experience the feeling of accomplishment that follows the overcoming of obstacles and challenges. Ensure you set achievable, realistic expectations for yourself and learn to keep things in perspective.
